Notes
Note N6On John Edward Cox's birth certificate, "Marvin R. Cox" is listed as father. Evidence presented: Affidavit of Mamie Lou Laseter given 6 Jan 1970; Family Bible record from shortly after birth; Life Insurance Company of Virginia policy #3218354, 13 Nov 1916 (father not stated). States Marvin R. Cox was from North Carolina
Marriage certificate for Mamie Lou and Mr. Cox - name given as "Marion" in two places. No place of origin.
Family legend says that Marvin/Marion was a soldier from North Carolina who left Mamie Lou soon after their marriage. There is some speculation that he was using a false name. As Mamie Lou is identified as a widow in the next census, I wouldn't be surprised if he was buried out in James Laseter's backyard.
