Minerva was born on December 10, 1852 in Gibson County, Tennessee. She was the daughter of Moses Cox III (1802-1890) and Mary (Porter) Cox (1810-1889). Minerva married James Franklin Brigance on 1867 in December 24, 1867 in Gibson County, Tennessee. They had at least 9 children together;
James died in 1903 and Minerva died on February 5, 1905 in Crockett County, Tennessee at the age of 52 years. She was buried at the Brigance Cemetery located in Crockett Mills, Crockett County, Tennessee.
