Biography

Born between Jan 1st and Mar 31st 1855, birth registered in Stepney, London. Lived with mother and sisters in 133 Dover St. Newington until he was 26. Lived at 45 Kestrel Avenue, Norwood from 1893 to 1911. Moved to Enfield Middlesex in retirement.

Played bowls.

At 16 he was a Law Clerk, and at 22 an "out of work Wine seller". At some point in his 20's his brother got him a job at the company he worked for as a salesman. Worked for William.C.Warne and company as a mercantile clerk for many years. William Warne & Co were manufacturers of India Rubber were based at 29 Gresham Street, and they were contractors to Her Majesty’s Government, and to the principal English and Foreign Railways. He was recorded as a commercial traveler for an Indian Rubber manufacturer in the census of 1911.

There is a record that he was a Freemason. In his later years the only member of his birth family to remain alive or in contact with him was his cousin Ann Cox. Ann was the daughter of Ann Cox, his aunt. The aunty Ann Cox was the next half-sister to Charles Cox from the Bath family of George Cox. Ann Cox the cousin must have been born to Ann the aunt out of wedlock, and stayed with other members of the family throughout her life. Ann the aunt never married, and ran a toy shop in Bath.
