Ann Cox was born 4 November 1767 in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts. She was the daughter of Jesse Cox and his wife Anna Townsend Hickling. The evidence on this line is skimpy and not up to my usual standard but it might give another researcher a lead to follow and improve this line. Out of four possibles, the best case for her husband that can be made is William Bacon. There is a marriage record in Boston for William Bacon and Ann Cox 23 November 1789 in Boston. There is about the same amount of evidence for William as there is for Ann. I can not find his birth anywhere in Massachusetts nor his death. I do find him in 1810 living in Boston in Ward 12 in a household with five people, Four of the five appear to be children. Yet I find no birth records recorded in Boston.[1]The next record I found was the 1820 U.S. Census. William Bacon appears in two places, ward 12 and ward 9. The lower the number the closer you are to the city center. Ward 12 could have been Dorchester. In ward 12, I find a household with twelve persons suggesting a large number of children. But still none listed in Boston Births.[2]In ward 9 their were eight persons in the household. Still some possible children, still not listed in Vital Records.[3]The two addresses could mean they moved within the census year or bought a new house. It could also mean that there are two William Bishops in Boston. Because we have no birth record for William Bishop, we are forced to estimate his birth. Taking twenty years off his marriage date we arrived at 1769. So, the 1810 census he would be 41. The 1820 census whould make him 51. That does not give us any explanation as to why no children appear in the records. I did find a William Bishop who died in Boston 8 April 1821 and was buried in Central Burial Ground, born 1780.
