Biography

Elizabeth COX. Given Name: Elizabeth. Surname: COX. [1]

Elizie //. Given Name: Elizie. [2] Found multiple versions of name. Using Elizabeth COX.

Born BET 1861 AND 1862. Louisiana, USA. [3] Imported only 1861 from Birth Date and marked as uncertain.

Note: William J. Cox died in 1861. Thus this Elizabeth could not have been born in 1865. The 1880 LA, Red River Co., Census finds Emeline living with William Coleman. Elizzie Cox (step-dau), age 15, is living with them. It may be possible that the 1880 Census is incorrect, but there is no information to indicate that William came home from Camp Moore prior to his death. Outside of the census notation that Elizzie Cox was Coleman's stepdaughter (Emaline's daughter). 2 While William J. Cox died at Camp Moore, LA in 1861, it should be noted that Camp Moore is adjacent to Tangipaho, LA where William and Emeline lived. It was not uncommon for wives to visit their spouses in their camps or for the men to go home for visits if they lived nearby. Thus it is possible that Elizabeth was born earlier than 1861 or shortly thereafter. William's brother George W. Cox's wife Mary gave birth to a daughter after he died. They also lived in Tangipahoa. 2 Note: In the 1880 Jackson Parish, LA Census the Benjamin F. Cox household lists a stephen O. Brown, age 19 as brother-in-law. There is no Brown spouse living with them. Could Elizzie Cox be married to Brown at this point, but living with her mother? Sarah Smart Cox's (Benjamin's spouse) oldest unmarried sister would only be 11. Her oldest sister is already married to a L.M. Simmons.

Census: 1880 LA, Red River Co., 1st Ward, Pg4, Line 50. [4]
