Notes from external profile

Josiah was appointed guardian of his younger brothers William, Thomas J. and George W. Cox on 26 Dec 1837, thus he had to have become 21 years of age at this point. On 28 April 1834 Josiah signed a receipt for the sum of $800 representing his "full claim to the estate of said (William Cox) dec'd and paid me by the said Hoel (James Hoel) who is my gurdian (sic). Apl 1834." Josiah also apparently was paid $633 for "services and property for farm" by the estate for the period. Thus Josiah may have turned 21 in 1834. The Claiborne County Mississippi Marriage Project lists a marriage of Josiah Cox to a Martha Davis on 23 Jan 1837. Perhaps he turned 21 in 1834 and was unable to assume guardianship until he was married. There is another marriage record in Claiborn Co., MS for Josiah W. Cox 18 Mar 1846 to a Mary Eliza Harmon. It is possible that Josiah had two marriages.
