Biography

When John Taliaferra(Tolliver) Cox was born in 1803 in South Carolina, his father, Tolliver, was 29 and his mother, Frances, was 23. He died in 27 May 1860 in Bodega, California, at the age of 57, and was buried in Sebastopol, California. https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/51164806

"John T Cox (b. 1800 SC - d. 1860 CA) was in Hall Co, GA by 1829 and is on the 1830 Census with his wife and 4 daughters. In 1832 he was awarded land in "The 1832 Cherokee Land Lottery of Georgia". But by 1840 he was in Carroll Co, AR.[1]

"John T Cox named his children, Edna B, Nancy Terresse, Mary Adeline, Sarah R, William Josiah, John T, James Caspar, Thomas Calvin, and Louisa E.[2]

"Others have his parents as Tolliver Cox and Frances Davidson, but for various reasons I feel this is an error."[3]

Found this, but it doesn't give a source for the middle name:
