Biography

Hole in the Road Kills Woman

In the second traffic accident in two days on Broadway at McCrackin Road, Thelma Cox, 17, of of 9315 Quebec Avenue S. E., was killed last night, when the automobile in which she was a passenger overturned after striking a chuck hole.

A sister, Mary, also a passenger, suffered minor injuries, and the driver, Charles Thomas, 23, of Ravenna, O., sustained bruises.

The accident occurred in a section of the pavement on Broadway which has been almost impassable for the past year, according to the residents along Broadway. It is filled with "chuck holes" and ruts, and is traveled infrequently because of the condition. The automobile was travelling about 35 miles an hour when It struck a "chuck hole", Thomas said.

Up until the time we struck the hole," Thomas said, "the pavement had been especially good. I was not prepared for anything like the kind of road it turned out to be."

The Cox sisters and Thomas were taken to the Bedford City Hospital.
