Sarah was the seventh child in her family, and was born at Cleveden near Ouse in Tasmania.
Little is known of Sarah's childhood.
Sarah grew up in a close community with a handful of families, amongst whom was the Harrex family. Sarah's eldest sister, Ann, married a Harrex.
In 1878 Sarah had a baby, Ada Louisa Cox. Ada's baptism records states that the father was surnamed Harrex, but no first name is given.
In 1882, when Ada was about four years old, Sarah married John Brown, a farm hand at Strathbarton in Bothwell. From all accounts [1] John was a quiet man whom animals liked and who could handle horses very well. It is likely that he liked children as well.
They were married at Brighton Congregational Church in Brighton, Tasmania.
John and Sarah had nine children.
Sarah died of post partum hemorrhage just a day after the birth of her ninth child, Mabel, in 1900.
She was buried at Bothwell Cemetery.
