DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Richard by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
Y-chromosome DNA test-takers in his direct paternal line on WikiTree:
Richard Coxe/Cox (John2 Coxe/Cox, William1 Coxe/Cox) does not descend from Alice Coxe (Coxe-3). Looking at Alice’s profile, it seems she was identified as the sister of William Coxe.
Richard was the son of John and the grandson of William who came to Kecoughtan (Elizabeth City) in 1610. Unless a new source has been found, William’s line of descent is still unproven. He may have been out of the family of Sir Henry Coxe of Broxburne, Hertfordshire but that hasn’t been confirmed.
I have changed Richard’s sticker to show he descends from ancient planter, William Coxe because he was his grandson.
I am learning that the ‘Millennium File’ is, in my opinion, not a source. It can sometimes be a good hint, just be careful. It appears in Hints on Ancestry and displays a pop up screen of information. The problem is (at least in my experience) that it doesn’t show references (Book, page, deed, will, marriage contracts, etc).
I can find no source or logic based on life events that proves Richard Cox was born in 1678. Adventurers of Purse and Person’ Ed4 Vol1 p728 shows that ….
Richard’s father, John Cox was married more than once. One wife may have been a daughter of Robert Craddock. His children by an earlier wife or wives were William, Bartholomew, and Henry. The wife who survived him was Mary Kennon and Richard was John and Mary Kennon’s son.
I realize some researchers believe Mary Elam possibly married a Kennon before marrying John Cox. Another possibility (based on the statements in APP), is that John may have married 3 times.
Could it be that John married lastly Mary Kennon, license Sept 22, 1682 and Mary Elam was an earlier wife, already deceased when her father’s will in 1688 included her widower husband John Cox?
Either way, I accept Mary Kennon as Richard’s mother as listed in Adventurers of Purse and Person.
Cox-27555 and Cox-506 appear to represent the same person because: these two need to be researched and straightened out for merge. Need to check their brother and see if helps determine the parents. Might just be spouse is on wrong profile. I'll look into it.

There has been some disagreement about the parents. Would be nice if it could be sorted out.
Since there has been objection to this match, I assume there is evidence that there were two Richard Coxes that lived at the same time.
Thank you
