Biography
Levi was born in Malden, Massachusetts, in 1824, the son of John and Lydia (Andrews) Cox. [1]
He married Mary Ann Galeucia in 1849. [2] They resided in Malden, where Levi was a last maker (1850) [3] and carpenter (1860) [4].
With the outbreak of the Civil War, he enlisted on 30 April 1861, in Company K of the 17th Mass. Volunteers. He later was transferred to Co. C, and re-enlisted 14 December 1863, eventually achieving the rank of sergeant. [5]
Levi died while home on a furlough at his home in Malden in 1864 [6], leaving a widow and 6 children, all minors. His brother Charles became guardian of the children. [7]
