Biography

From the Boston books listing Dorchester: "Thomas ye Son of John Cock was borne August y" 22d 1697." From the Dorchester records themselves: "Thomas Cocks Grandchild of Sister Pope 9. 3mo. 98."

Chlldren: Hephzabath (April 15 1723), Elisabeth (Aug 15 1724), Sarah (April 1 1725), Ann (born Jan 22; bapt Aug 22 1726). They lived in Dorchester, on the border of Boston.

July 21 1723: Thos Cocks "laid hold on ye Covenant" along with his sister Susanna and her husband. Basically, they joined the full communion of the church. Their brother and sister-in-law Joseph and Elizabeth Cocks "confessed fornication & manifested repentance" at the same time. Hephzibah was admitted to full communion on Jan 8 1727.

1725. " Sept. 26. About a fortnight ago, Joseph Maudsly, Mr. John Preston, Mr. Soper, and Mrs. Butt's son, on a fishing voyage, turned into a cove at the Eastward, in their vessel, with Joseph Maudsly's servant boy... also Mr. Cox strove to go in, but the fog hindered him ; and the Indians barbarously murdered all that went in, but the boy." (The boy was redeemed in 1728.)

We don't know which Mr. Cox this was; there were a few living in the area. The last time we hear anything of Thomas is the birth of his daughter Ann 4 months after this expedition. Perhaps Thomas was on this or a similar one and was killed? The sudden ending of his having children seems suspicious. Other than this information, nothing is stated in records about Thomas. He would most likely have been a farmer who also fished as part of his livelihood. Fishing seems to be a Cox family profession.

However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Thomas:
