Which of the above Williams belong to this profile? None of them quite fit. If the dates listed with the children above are correct, William should have three daughters and two sons in this census. Perhaps another male was living in William's family at this time.

The will of William Cox, proven 1843, named his wife Elizabeth and each of his children, including the married name of Barbary Harper.

Will of Elizabeth Cox (said to be the mother of William M., but no mention of him in the will):

State of South Carolina, Pendleton District: In the name of God, Amen. know ye that I, Elizabeth Cox do make my last will and testament. to my son James Cox, one bay horse, which I have now in my possession named Jack, to my granddaughter Elizabeth daughter of John Cox my own bed and furniture, two______ and one bed quilt. To my granddaughter Lucinda Riley I will and bequeath my other bed and furniture viz bed sheets, 2 pillows and bed quilt, to my son John Cox 1 pewter dish and 6 plates and it is my desire that my bay horse should be sold on a 12 month credit and son John should get 1/3 part and the rest be divided equally between all my legatees except James Lewis, Charlie White, Hollingsworth Van Diver and my desire is that they each should have 5 shillings out of my estate and no other part of anything else. All other goods be sold and equally divided except as before mentioned. The $30.00 I have in hands of Benjamin Dukoah should be got by the legatees or executor to pay James Sims, David McCutcheon, Henry Cox, Gambrels Cox and Nimrod Bartlett $2.69 each and rest to go to my sons John and James Cox. It is my wish that James should have the crop growing on my place. I appoint James C. Griffin and my son John Cox as my executors, signed 22 July 1809. DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with William by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with William:
