Biography

Richard is buried in the Van Vlack Cemetery, Kane County, Illinois. (1)

His genealogy is discussed in the following article. Arnold Bassett (his several greats grandfather) is listed in an online book about his descendants, Richard Arnold Bassett and Richard Arnold Bassett Crabtree.[1] The text: "Richard Arnold Bassett was born in New Brunswick, Canada, on March 19, 1825. It seems that Arnold, as he was called, was named for his father and perhaps Great Grandfathers, Richard Crabb and Arnold Bassett." This article goes on to say that: "In May of 1847, Richard Arnold Bassett Crabb married his first cousin Rachel Crabb in St. John County, New Brunswick, Canada..." The couple then moved to Vermont, then Illinois, where their last name was changed to "Crabtree" (1850 Illinois census). Crabtree-2874 and Crabb-452 appear to represent the same person because: Looks like a good match, was looking at the tree from two angles and found two different profiles for him.

From the biography on Crabb-452 it sounds like his birth name was Crabb after his father and then they changed it to Crabtree when they moved to Illinois.
