Obituary

Mrs. Henry [Mary Crabtree] Duckworth, of Wyoming, died on Saturday last, December 10, 1898, after a painful and protracted affliction. She was born in Lancashire, England, on the 19th of July, 1828, and was married to Henry Duckworth at Burg church, on the 27th of August, 1848. She was the mother of twelve children, six boys and six girls; four have passed away; eight survive to mourn her loss, and all were present at the funeral.

Mrs. Duckworth was a faithful wife, a kind and loving mother, devoutly attached to her children, and a good and faithful friend and neighbor. She was for many months a great sufferer, but very patient, bearing all with uncomplaining submission to the divine will. When the end came she called upon her heavenly Father and committed herself to his hands. The name of her husband was the last word she was heard to utter.

The funeral services were held in the Congregational church on the afternoon of Tuesday, the 13th, the officers and members of the Eastern Star conducting them according to the ritual of their order, after which the Rev. W. Walters, pastor of the church, took charge of the services, being assisted by Rev. W. H. Jordan, of Brimfield.

Mrs. Duckworth was one of the oldest members of the Congregational church in Wyoming, having united with it, along with her husband, during the first year of its existence. She was entombed in a steel vault and buried in the Wyoming cemetery. Numerous floral tributes manifested the affection and esteem in which she was held. [1]
