Biography

Mary Jane Crabtree was born in Appalachia, in Tennessee.

Mary Jane Crabtree was born on August 16, 1852, daughter of Hiram Crabtree (1818–1898) and Minerva Jane Delk (1820–1898).

Mary (18) married Pleasant Henry Leffew (30) (born on July 6, 1840 in Kingston, Roane County, Tennessee, United States; son of Pleasant Henry Leffew I and Elenor Nelly (Rook) Leffew) on November 13, 1870 in Fentress, Tennessee.

In the 1860 census Mary (age 8) was at 8th District, Fentress, Tennessee, United States.[1] Hiram Crabtree 42, Manerva Crabtree 38, Thomas Crabtree 19, Anza Crabtree 18, Nancy Crabtree 15, Mary J E Crabtree 8, Winnie Crabtree 6.

In the 1880 census Mary (age 24), Keeping House, was the wife of Henry Leffew in District 8, Grainger, Tennessee, United States.[2] Henry Leffew 35, wife Mary Leffew 24, daughter Armilda Leffew 9, daughter Luisa Leffew 7, son Stephen H. Leffew 5, son William Leffew 2.

In the 1900 census Mary (age 51) was the wife of Pleasant H Leffew in Fentress, Tennessee, United States.[3] Pleasant H Leffew 56, wife Mary Jane E Leffew 51, daughter Manona L Leffew 25, son Stephen H D Leffew 23, son Orin Leffew 16, grandchild Marion L Leffew 6, grandchild Marion L Leffew 0.

In the 1910 census Mary (age 55) was the wife of Pleasant H Leffew in Civil District 2, Fentress, Tennessee, United States.[4] Pleasant H Leffew 68, wife Mary J Leffew 55, son Steven Leffew 27, daughter Manania Leffew 25, son Orian C Leffew 23, grandchild Marion Leffew 16, grandchild Linsy Leffew 10, grandchild Emma Leffew 5.

In the 1930 census Mary (age 79) was the widowed mother of Nonie Leffew in District 2, Fentress, Tennessee, United States.[5] Nonie Leffew 54, son Mairon Leffew 36, daughter Emma Williams 25, son-in-law Quinton Williams 25, grandchild Henry Williams 3, mother Mary J Leffew 79.

Mary died on February 8, 1932, aged 79. She was buried in Wolf River Cemetery, Pall Mall, Tennessee.[6][7]
