The 1820 Census shows that William Crabtree was a slaveholder, with 17 enslaved persons living on his Orange County, North Carolina estate at that time [10]:
9 enslaved females - 2 >45 years old, 1 age 26-44, 2 age 14-25, 4 <14 years old
8 enslaved males - 1 >45 years old, 6 age 14-25, 1 <14 years old.
