William Crabtree II was a Maryland colonist.

"Wm. Crabtree son of Wm. and Mary Crabtree was born the 22nd of December 1726 ." [2]

"Eliz'th Crabtree daughter of Wm. and Mary Crabtree was born the 5th of November 1728 ." [3]


Several possible origins: -William Crabtree was born in 1703/4 in Malita, Yorkshire, England, England; or Leeds, Yorkshire, England. -William Crabtree II, son of William, was baptized 1 Mar 1703 at Silkstone with Stainborough, All Saints, Yorkshire, England. William settled in Baltimore, Maryland.

5 sons and 3 daughters are named in his Will (1) William III (2) John and (3) James (4) Thomas (5) Samuel

In his will he mentions his loving wive Jane Crabtree my dwelling Plantation with one hundrd and fifty acres of lands of the southern most land during er natura life or her widowhood that shall first happen and then to go to my son William Crabtree his heirs and assignes forever. I likewise give and bequeath unto my living with Jane Crabtree one Irish servant lad called Alexander Anderson during her widowhood, then to go to my son William Crabtree one servant man that samuel webb ows me to him and his heirs and assigns. 3rd I give and bequeath to my son John Crabtree One Hundred and Fifty Acres of land adjoining to where he now lives being the North East part to him his heirs and assigns forever. I also give and bequeath to my son John Crabtree one negro boy called ...[4]

William Crabtree died in Baltimore, Washington County, Maryland in 1754. [5]

William Crabtree, III, b. 22 Dec 1726 who married in Baltimore County, Maryland on 27 May 1746 to ::Hannah Whitaker And it was William Crabtree III who in 1768 received a land grant for 378 acres in ::Bedford Co., Va. [6] It is this grandson of William Crabtree who migrated to Virginia with his family.

Comment Upon the 2 sons and a brother-in-law who imigrate to Virginia

Note: In the book, 'Leaving a Trail', Chapter I- Crabtree, it is stated that
'William, III., his brother John and their brother-in-law James POTEET,
with their entire families, went to Bedford County VA about 1756-57 and
that both William and John left Bedford County and settled at Saltville
in Washington County VA from: Clint Edwards[7]

Crabtree-86 and Crabtree-1877 appear to represent the same person because: There are three profiles for the same William Crabtree II b ~1704 in either Leeds or Yorkshire; son of emigrants William Crabtree I and Jane Halstead. The third profile is Crabtree-1580 which has already been removed once from Crabtree-1887
