Note N233Janet Mary Craig was born in Beith on 3 Feb 1897 to parents John Craig and Eliza Gunn.
Following info provided by Elsie Broughton, Canada :
John Craig married Eliza Gunn from Dalry in 1881. They had 7 children - David, Jean, Agnes, George, Jessie, Janet and Elsie. The family emigrated to Canada on the SS Carthaginian - an Allen Line Royal Mail steamer, which sailed from Glasgow on June 6, 1906 and landed in Montreal on June 16, and were the first settlers in the Eagle Lake country of Saskatchewan. The town of Netherhill was named after the Craig home near Beith.
Janet Mary Craig is found on the 1901 census aged 3, living with her parents at 3 Netherhill, Beith. The census data confirms her age and place of birth.
In 1906, Janet and her family emigrated to Canada on the SS Carthaginian - an Allen Line Royal Mail steamer, which sailed from Glasgow on June 6, 1906 and landed in Montreal on June 16.
The 1911 census for Moose Jaw and Netherhill, Saskatchewan, Canada, was compiled by Janet's father John Craig - all 13 pages of it. Page 8 includes Janet and her family - and a visitor from Scotland. The census records that all were living at "29-21". Janet is listed as John's daughter, age 10, born in February 1897 in Scotland, and who emigrated in 1906. Her race is listed as Scottish, with her nationality Canadian. Janet's religion is listed as prestbyterian, with no occupation listed (she was at school). The census also recorded that Janet spent 9 months out of 1910 at school, and that she could read and write and that her main language was English. Also present in the house on the census are father John, Mother Eliza, and siblings Jeannie, Jessie and Eliza. And Mary Gunn - Jessie's maternal Aunt - who may have been visiting from Scotland or emigrated in 1910. George Gunn Craig is also found on the census living in a separate house.

She was living in Netherhill in July 1970, when George Craig wrote his family history.
