Biography

Andy Craig lived in Appalachia, in North Carolina.

Andrew Deaver CRAIG was born on 5 Sep 1877 in Lincoln, North Carolina (NC), United States. He was the son of John Craig and Margaret (Bivins) Craig. [1] In 1880, Andrew, 4, is living on his parents' farm in Bandys, Catawba, NC. [2]

Andrew married Emma (Scronce) Craig on 24 Dec 1898 in Lincoln, NC. [3]

Between 1900 and 1920, Andy and Emma farmed in Lincoln, NC and eventually owned their farm free of mortgage. They had seven children, six of whom reached adulthood: Artie Mae, Ocie, Fred, Ethel Louise, George Marshall and Loy. [4] [5] [6]

In 1930, Andy is still farming in Lincoln, NC. He is married to Lillie, and they have had one son together, Hoover. Loy, Andy's youngest child from his first marriage, continues to live with him. [7]

In 1940, Lillie is widowed and a farm laborer renting a home in Catawba, NC. She and Andy have had four children together: Hoover, Mary Lane, William and Mittie. [8]

Andrew passed away on 4 Sep 1938 in Catawba, NC. [9] [10] He is buried in the Laurel Hill UMC Cemetery in Vale, Lincoln, NC. [11]
