There are two men named Isaiah Washington Craighead with similar biographies--This profile is for Isaiah Washington Craighead (b. Feb 28, 1813 in Franklin Co, Virginia (some sources say Pittsylvania, Virginia) and who d. Mar 31, 1873 in Callaway Co, Missouri - he was married to Susan Bethena Kemp). He is the son of Isaiah Walter Craighead. I do believe the two men are related in some way (most likely cousins). Though they are definitely two different individuals , their biographies are similar enough and can easily be confused). The other Isaiah Washington Craighead was born on 12 Jul 1812 in Smith County, Tennessee. He married Massey “Minnie” Sandlin on 16 Sep 1835 in Dubuque, Iowa. He died January 30, 1879 in Clay County, Missouri. He is the son of Shelton Craighead of Tennessee.......(*Addendum: The two Isaiah Washington Craigheads are second cousins to each other, both are descendants of Robert Craighead Sr through his sons John and Peter)....

Biography

Isaiah was born in 1813 in Franklin County, Virginia (other sources say Pittsylvania, Virginia) to parents Isaiah Walter Craighead and Feminine (Robinson) Craighead. By 1830, He relocated from Virginia to Callaway County, Missouri with his parents and siblings.

Marriage: He married Susan Bethena Kemp, daughter of Walter Kemp, in 1840 in Hams Prairie, Missouri and they had ten children together (All of their children were born in Missouri):

  1. George Washington Craghead, born May 17, 1842 and married Emily Alice Callaway January 13, 1870.
  2. Sarah Holland Craghead, born December 11, 1843 and died August 16, 1864 unmarried.
  3. Nancy Jane Feminine Craghead, born December 24, 1845 and died April 24, 1884. Nancy married James Thomas Houseman August 19, 1866.
  4. James Robert Walter Craghead, born November 22, 1847 and died November 5, 1895. He married Cordelia Jennings.
  5. Alfred Isaiah Craghead, born December 8, 1849 and died October 4, 1884. He married Catherine D. Clingman October 23, 1879.
  6. Peter Jackson Craghead, born April 27, 1852 and died August 29, 1901. He married Susan F. Clingman October 23, 1879.
  7. William Thomas Craghead, born December 19, 1853 and married Elizabeth Ann Kemp October 26, 1876.
  8. Marion Theodore Huodon Craghead, born February 11, 1856 and died May 9, 1859.
  9. Morgan Monroe Craghead, born February 11, 1856 and died May 9, 1859
  10. Warren Humphrey Craghead, born February 1, 1860 and died September 23, 1930. He married Emma Jane Faubion October 10, 1897

The Craighead Family were early pioneers and settlers in Callaway County, Missouri in the early 1800's.

Isaiah passed away in March 1873 in Callaway County, Missouri and is buried at the Craghead Cemetery in Toledo, Callaway County, Missouri. [1]

“Notice is hereby given that letters of administration have been granted to the undersigned by the Clerk of the Callaway County Court upon the estate of Isaiah Craighead, deceased, hearing date April 5, 1873.

All persons having claim against said estate are required to present them as the law directs within two years from the date of said administration or be precluded from any benefit there of…… W.A.B Craighead Administrator Fulton Telegraph-April 9, 1875: Isaiah Craighead
