Ransom Crandall was born about 1889 to his mother Isadora York. It is uncertain who his father is, as although his father is listed as John Crandall in the 1900 census[1] and his obituary[2], his sister - also listed as a Crandall! - has the father "William Carrier" in her obituary. Based off of the newspaper articles about Jacob William Carrier, it is very likely that Ransom is Jacob's son.
Ransom Crandall passed away on April 15, 1901. From his obituary, we have the following:[2]
Ransom Crandall, the two year old son of John Crandall, living near Campville, met a terrible death yesterday afternoon by being burned so seriously that he died within two hours after the accident.
The mother was away from the house and the child, it is supposed, ignited his clothing while playing with the kitchen fire. Another child, about four years old, attempted to give alarm to their father in another room, but the father, who is of unsound mind, did not realize the grave condition of affairs and the child was mass of flames when help came, too late to save his life. In two hours death came to relieve his sufferings.
The funeral will be held at 1 p. m. tomorrow; interment at Apalachin.
