Eber Crandall has English ancestors.

Eber Crandall was born in 1676, the son of Elder John Crandall[1] and Hannah Gaylord, in Westerly, Rhode Island.[2][3]

Eber married first Mary last name unknown[3] about 1701 in Newport/Westerly Rhode Island.[4] There were no children from this marriage.

Eber was admitted freeman at Westerly Rhode Island on 29 Jun 1702.[5]

Eber married second about 1702 to Patience, daughter of George Lanphere, and they had the following children:[1][3][5][6]

  1. John, b. abt. 1703; m.1st Mary Crandall; m.2nd unk.
  2. Eber, b. abt. 1703; m. 10 Feb. 1732 Mary Long.
  3. Samuel, b. abt. 1707; m. 14 Oct. 1731, Sarah Worden.
  4. Joseph, b. abt. 1709; m. Edith Hiscox 2 May 1735.

Eber married third, about 1709, May or Mary, daughter of Nicholas or John Cottrell, and they had the following children:[1][3][6]

  1. Mary, b. abt. 1710; m. John Crandall, Jr.
  2. Nathaniel, b. 28 Feb. 1711; in. Jemima (Cartee) Wilcox.
  3. Jonathan, b. abt. 1715; in. 1st ; in. 2nd, 12 Apr. 1747, Hannah Downing.
  4. Ebenezer, b. abt. 1717; m. Thankful (Willett) Clarke.
  5. Jeremiah, b. 1718; in. Keziah.
NOTE: Mary's father, Nicholas Cottrell d. 1727, he was the son of Nicholas who died in 1715, who in turn was son of Nicholas who was first mentioned in Newport, Rhode Island on 20 May 1638; d.1680; Freeman in Newport 1655. His will dated at Taunton, Mass. Feb. 1680. His widow took oath to his will 1 July 1681 at the age of 36 yrs. therefore, she was not the mother of all his children. May/Mary Cottrell’s mother was Dorothy Pendleton.

Eber died in 1727. His will dated 22 Aug 1727 was proved 15 Sep 1727[7][5] and named his wife & all 9 children, and also named Nicholas Cottrell & Nathaniel Cottrell as co-executors.[3]

Research Notes

Some online trees/files refer to Eber Crandall as "Ebenezer" Crandall. No source for the name Ebenezer has been found.
