Jonathan, age 38, was a Private in Capt John Barrows' company, Col Abijah Stearn's regiment of guards. He enlisted 14 Apr 1778 and was discharged 2 July 1778. His service was 2 months and 21 days at and around the Boston area.[2][3][4]
In 1781 Jonathan served as a Private in the 27th Continental Army under Col. Rufus Putnam’s Regiment, who participated in the Battle of Saratoga. This regiment was commanded by Colonel John Mansfield, of Lynn, who left the service on September 15, 1775. From then until the end of the year, the regiment was commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Israel Hutchinson, of Danvers. It served in the “Siege of Boston,” and was designated the 27th Continental Regiment in the 1776 establishment. The regiment was furloughed on June 12, 1783, at New Windsor, New York, and disbanded on November 3, 1783. In 1783, Jonathan was mustered out of the service. [5]
Jonathan, age 22, married Celia (Clark) Crapo, age 22, on December 28, 1785, in his hometown of Rochester, Massachusetts. [6][7]

Jonathan died on October 22, 1846, in Sullivan, Ohio, having lived a long life of 83 years, and was buried in Close Street Cemetery, Sullivan, Ashland County, Ohio.[18]

The mother of Mrs. Hart, who was born in the town of Jamaica, Windham County, Vt., June 11. 1797, died at the family home at Rochester, Ohio, May 18, 1877. She was the mother of six children, namely: De Grass, Orin, Mynette, Janet, Julia M. and Mary J.
Mrs. Hart's maternal grandfather, whose name was Jonathan Crapo, was of good old New England stock and was a native of Rhode Island. He was a pioneer of Vermont and also of Jefferson County, N. Y., where he settled in 1804. He carried on farming there until his removal to the forest wilds of Ashland County. Ohio, in 1835.
He was one of the early settlers of Sullivan Township, that county, where he bought a farm, on which he lived until his life was rounded out by death at a ripe old age. He was a gallant soldier of the Revolution. His wife, whose maiden name was Cecilia Clark, also died on the home farm in Sullivan Township.[19]
