Biography

Nathaniel Marsh Crary, born 14 Apr 1784 in Stonington, Connecticut, was the second child of George Crary and Esther Brown [1].

He married first, about 1809 in Stonington, Connecticut, Prudence Peabody [2]; they had 5 children [3]:

  1. Nancy Crary (1809-1812)
  2. Emily (Crary) Brown (1812-1861); married Nathan Brown
  3. Thomas Peabody Crary (1814-1879); married Maria Stanton Ball
  4. Cyrus Williams Crary (1817-1853); married Mary Peabody
  5. John Hewitt Crary (1820-1898); married Martha E. Bentley

Prudence (Peabody) Crary died 29 Nov 1820; Nathaniel thereafter married second, 18 Jul 1824 in North Stonington, Connecticut, Rebecca Stewart; they had 4 children:

  1. William Crary (abt.1825-1839)
  2. Betsey Crary (1827-1852)
  3. Edwin Crary (1832-1850)
  4. Louisa Kimberly (Crary) Brown (1837-1900); married 1) Stephen A. Brown; 2) Nelson Andrew Brown

Nathaniel Marsh Crary served in 3 Reg't (Belcher's) Connecticut Militia, Corporal [4], during the War of 1812.

This family resided principally in North Stonington, Connecticut [5],[6]

Nathaniel Marsh Crary died 27 Jul 1866 at North Stonington [7],[8]. His grave is in Crary Cemetery #65, N. Stonington, New London, Connecticut. Inscription: "Crary, Nathaniel M., War of 1812, died July 27, 1866, age 82 yrs. 3 mos. 10 days" [9],[10].
