He served as serg't in the French and Indian War, 1755, 1756; as 2d lieut., 1758; as 1st Lieut., 1759 (French and Indian War Rolls, 1:15, 101 & 2:63, 69, 170 and Conn. Colonial Records, 11:98, 229). He was one of the first forty settlers of Wyoming, Penn., and was lieutenant of militia there. His son, Samuel, succeeded to that office, Dec. 5, 1772.
