Albert was born in 1844 to Crawford-2674 Henry Crawford and [[Widdifield-3 Hannah Widdifield. He married Vanzant-47 Hannah Vanzant in 1868.

His mother, Hannah, was living with them in 1871 (see census) Albert came with his wife Hannah, and 1 son Malcolm, from Pickering to Manitoulin Island. He bought a farm in Carnarvan Township, and stocked it with a team of oxen, a stallion and several mares he brought with him. He also brought the machinery he needed to farm with from Pickering. He had $00. when he arrived, and farmed successfully setting up each of his children on farms in the area. He set up the 1st Doctor's office in his home, and later his home became the 1st bank in Mindemoya.
