Biography

Margaret was born in 1821. She was the daughter of Robert Crawford and Elizabeth McBryan.

She emigrated to Canada with her family about 1843, and they initially settled in Reach Township. She had met Richard Lean on the ship. They were married at Whitby on 2 November 1845.

They went on to have 10 children.

Her husband passed away in 1900.

She passed away in 1909 at the age of 87.

Obituary

One by one the old pioneers in this section are crossing the Great Divide. On Wednesday, the 24th ult., Margaret Crawford, relict of the late Richard L. Lean, passed away at the ripe old age of 87 years, 9 months and 24 days. Deceased was born in the county of Donegal, and came to Canada when quite a young girl with the family who first settled in Reach township, below Toronto. On November 2, 1845, she married her late husband, and together they came to Bosanquet to hew out a home for themselves in what was then a primeval Forest. Ten children blessed the union all of whom are still living except Robert who died at the age of 22 years. The other children are John, Rapid City, Manitoba; Mrs. Jas. Clink, Dawn, wife of the Free Methodist minister of that place; Richard, of the 4th con.; Mrs. D. P. Campbell, Mrs. Richard Macken, Mrs. Thos. A. Lampman and Mrs. Sanford O. Blunden, and James and Nathaniel on the old homestead, al of Bosanquet. The funeral took place from the family residence, 4th con., on Friday March 27th to Pinehill cemetery. The services were conducted by the Rev. A. L. Beverley, of Christ (Epis.) church, Forest, assisted by the Rev. E. W. Hughes, of St. Paul's church Thedford. The pallbearers were here four sons-in-law and two grand-children, Jas. L. Campbell and Geo. Lean.
