Biography

Barney Crawford is a member of Clan Crawford.

[1]George Barnett Crawford was a native American Indian born in 1881 in Arkansas. Barnett was an original Choctaw Enrollee. [2]

Barnett first married Minnie Lee Burnes in Bonham, Texas (Fannin County) on May 28, 1899.[3] Barnett was age 18 and Minnie was age 13. Barnett and Minnie were divorced in the Durant, Indian Territory court on August 7, 1904. Barnett and Minnie had a daughter, Ruby Gertrude Crawford, who was born October 18, 1902.

In 1904, Barnett second married Elizabeth 'Lizzie' Jolley, who was born in 1874 in Texas, daughter of Richard Montgomery Jolley (1845-1923) and Mary F. Briggs (1847-1916). They had four sons: Willie Arthur Crawford, born March 3, 1905 and died 1947; Samiel Floyd Crawford, born April 1, 1908 and died April 25, 1933; Lane Loyd Crawford, born November 16, 1909 and died April 14, 1992; and Beverly 'Bud' Crawford, born February 5, 1912 and died January 7, 1990.

The 1910 Federal Census for Taliaferro, Oklahoma (Marshall County) shows George B. Crawford, an Indian, age 28, born in Arkansas; and his wife, Lizzie, age 36, born in Texas. Living with them was their son, Willie A. Crawford, an Indian, age 5; Floyd Crawford, an Indian, age 2; and Loyd Crawford, an Indian, age 4 months; all born in Oklahoma. The census shows that Barnett and Elizabeth had been married for six years and that both were on their second marriage. [4]

The 1940 Federal Census for Bennington, Oklahoma (Bryan County) shows G. B. Crawford, age 58, born in Arkansas; and his wife, Elizabeth Crawford, age 66, born in Texas. Living with them was their son, Loyd Crawford, a road construction laborer, age 30, born in Oklahoma; and his wife, Georgia, age 28, born in Oklahoma; and their daughter, Wyota Sue Crawford, age 1, born in Oklahoma. Living next door was their son, Bud Crawford, a farm laborer, age 28, born in Oklahoma; and his wife, Margie, age 24, born in Arkansas; and their son, Troy Crawford, age 3, born in Arkansas. [5]
