John (Crawford) Lindsay-Crawford, 1st Viscount Garnock was born on 12 May 1669, the the son of Hon. Patrick Crawford and Margaret Crawfurd.[1] He inherited the estate of his father on 14 December 1690.[1] He married Lady Margaret Stuart, daughter of James Stuart, 1st Earl of Bute [1]and Agnes Mackenzie, in January 1697.
He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Ayrshire between 1693 and 1703.[1] He was created Viscount of Mount Crawford, Lord Kilbirny, Kingsburn and Drumry [2] on 12 Apr 1703.[1] The desigation was altered on by letters patent on 26 Nov 1703 to Viscount of Garnock and Lord Kilbirny and Drumry.[1]
They also had three unnamed daughters.[1]
He died on 24 December 1708[1] at age 39.
