Biography

John was born on October 18th, 1812 in Ireland. ^[1]

On September 22nd, 1826 he married Mary H. Breed. ^[2] They had the following children: ^{[3][4] [5][6]}

In the book "The HIstory of Jo Daviess County Illinois" a short biographical record of John is written as follows: ^[7]
"Crawford, John S. Physician and Surgeon, office Main Street; residence on Bench Street, near First Presbyterian Church; born in Ireland, Oct. 18, 1812; spent five years at Dublin College, graduated from that institution; has diplomas also from the St. Louis University of Medicine, and Western Reserve College of Cleveland; came to Warwick, Orange Co., N.Y. in 1837; was engaged in the practice of his profession and drug business there and at Schenectady, N.Y. until 1841, when he came to Galena, where he has been engaged in practice ever since; for 28 years he was a member of the School Board here; he organized the Public Schools in 1844, also organized the City Medical Society in the same year; he was County Physician eight years, several years Health Officer of the city; he is the oldest resident physician now living in the city; he married Mary H. Breed in Sept. 1846; she was born in Boston, Mass.; they have three sons and four daughters; lost on son and one daughter."

John passed away on September 9th, 1885 in Illinois and is buried in the Greenwood Cemetery. ^[1]
