Jessie Brodie Hepburn (nee Crawford) the wife of James Hepburn of Biggar and Glasgow, was born at Lochwinnoch in 1849. Her mother, William Crawford's second wife, Agnes Orr of Kaim, and the younger of two of a Crawford family. William Crawford Jr., her brother had died unmarried in 1880 and Jessie had married James Hepburn at Lochwinnoch when 22 years old in 1871. After the death of her husband in Glasgow in 1894 the grain business was sold and she moved with daughter Addie to the Crawford house at Lochwinnoch and twenty-two years later, the old house of eight rooms was sold to the Lochwinnoch Gas Co. and they moved to a cottage at Johnshill which belonged to a cousin, an Orr of Kaim, (later to the Dickie family) and my mother died there in 1941.
