Marie Magdeleine Crawford is a descendant of an Acadian
Marie Magdeleine Crawford was born August 12, 1803 in St. Martinville, Louisiana just after the Louisiana Territory was purchased by the United States. Her parents were American Adam Crawford and Acadian Marie Magdeleine Granger.[1]Joseph Simon Mire, her baptismal sponsor, was Marie's older half-brother.
She married James Jacob Abshire at the St. Landry Parish Courthouse on April 30, 1822.[2]
In the civil record of her marriage she is called "Marie Adams" and Jacob is correctly called "Jacob Abshire" on one line, but "Joseph Abshire" on another. (Jacob's brother Joseph may have been a witness.) Marie and Jacob had a religious ceremony almost three years later that blessed and recorded the marriage in the church records of St. John's Cathedral in Lafayette.[3][4]
Marie Magdeleine Crawford, Madame Abshire, died not long after the birth of Sylvanie, c.1840 in Lafayette, Louisiana.[5]
Jacob remarried in 1843.
