According to the Early Western Augusta Pioneers; Part IX-The Crawford Family; The Crawford family is of Scottish ancestry. They were among the earliest settlers of Augusta county, Virginia. The Crawfords first arrived in Pennsylvannia and came from Pennsylvania to Orange and Augusta counties, Virginia about 1740 with his family.
The two brothers, said to be the sons of Col. William Crawford and Mary Douglas who were married in Scotland and migrated to the North of Ireland; They were Alexander and Patrick Crawford.
1. Alexander Crawford, married Mary McPheeters.
2. Patrick Crawford, married Sally Wilson. [1]
Fact: Christening (7 June 1691) Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland
Fact: Military Service French and Indian Wars
Fact: http://familysearch.org/v1/LifeSketch This is not Colonel William Crawford of the Revolutionary War. See record MFK9-69W for Colonel William Crawford.
This William Crawford was born 7 June 1691 in Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland, and died in 1767, and was married to Mary Ann Douglas. There is another Colonel William Crawford who died January 27, 1762, but is believed to have not married.
William Crawford was born in Lanarkshire, Scotland, June 7 1691.At age 23, in 1714 he married Mary Douglas of Dalkeith, Midlothian, Scotland. He was a graduate of the University of Edinburgh as a civil engineer and was a Colonel of the Scottish Royal Guards. He removed from Scotland to Ireland and thence to America in 1723, settling in Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania.
I have eight children listed for them and all but three born in Scotland.
Mary died in 1726 after the birth of their last child and William took his family to Augusta Co., Virginia settling at the base of Little North Mountain, now called Crawford Mountain, near Buffalo Gap.
He established a "smithy" and manufactured farming implements, guns, sabres, and domestic utensils.
William was killed on the Ohio River while trading with the Indians.
I would like to know more about William Crawford and his Wife Mary Douglas. She was the daughter of William Douglas,(1668 - 1745) and Grishild McKeand, (1672 - 1741)
I feel certain that William is a descendant of the Douglas Family of Scotland but I cannot connect him . Any help would be aprreciated
Thanks

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with William by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with William:
This profile is difficult to follow. In addition, there is a lot of duplicate GEDCOM data and not much source information. You start the profile with "He was killed by indians in ohio river, ohio territory." Several of your hotlinks are broken.
Crawford-8797 and Crawford-955 do not represent the same person because: I believe this is a close match but the parents are not the same and some of the other info. Still needs researched before I can merge these two.
Did William ever live and own property in the Carolinas? I found a record of a William Crawford being granted land in Bertie, N. Carolina on 26 march 1723?
William was very busy, I count 10 trips between the US and Europe when using the dates and info crawford.-955 Alexander had a brother Patrick and 1 unknown.
In checking the b. Dates and locations, also had a few shipboard romances.
Can the persons who entered check and correct .
I have been having trouble with my tree so I have made some changes.
I found many persons were not checking the Ydna line close enough. Using au doesn't count. I removed the au test.
I placed the longer form of ID, R1a1a, I've found many researchers using something else to make their corrections. I realize this will change some trees but My wish is to improve accuracy
If this doesn't work Ill try Family Finder.
