Newspaper article on plane crash:

Gerry T. Majors, 14, died Sunday evening in a Decatur hospital from injuries received a few hours earlier in a plane crash near Bethany. Young Major's brother, Herbert Allen, 24, and a cousin, James Ward, 20, were critically injured in the same crash. The three were in a light plane piloted by the older Majors brother. They took off from a field about two miles east of Bethany, flew in a half-circle and crashed nearby in a field on a farm owned by Walter Crowder, and operated by Robert Snyder. The time of the accident was about 4:40 p.m. The three were pinned in the wreckage which had to be cut away before they could be put in an ambulance and taken to the Decatur hospital. The accident is believed due to the plane being overloaded, also possibly from the high wind blowing that afternoon. Wednesday of this week, both young Ward, and the older Majors brother were still reported as critical, and both are unconscious. Both Majors boys are sons of Mr. and Mrs. H. P. (Red) majors of North Pekin, Illinois, formerly of Bethany. Services for Gerry Majors were held Wednesday afternoon at the Bethany Methodist church with interment there. He is survived by his parents, a sister, Mrs. Paul Compton of Shelbyville, and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Christ Majors and Mrs. Amos Lansden of Bethany.
