Mary Catherine Crist was born about 1828 to 1831 in Greenland Virginia or Greenbrier County, Virginia. In 1850 and 1860, Mary resided with her siblings and Jacob and Elizabeth Crist in Greenbrier County, Virginia (which is now in West Virginia).[1]
Crawford Alex'r Hull, widower, age 38 born in Highland, son of Peter A Hull and Rachel Tallman, and Mary Catherine Crist, age 37, born in "Greenland" Virginia, daughter of Jacob Crist and Fauber were married 18 Feb 1868 in Augusta County, Virginia.[2]
In 1870 and 1880 Crawford and Mary Hull resided in Highland County, Virginia. In 1870, they resided with their son "Corby S" (Kirby Smith) and her husband's son George from his first marriage. In 1880, they resided with sons Kirby S and Archy T.[3]
A story on the Hull family in a county history stated that Crawford, Mary and son Arch T Hull moved to Coryell County, Texas in 1884.[4]
C A Hull applied for land in Texas in 1886. C A Hull and Mary C Hull signed a quit claim form to transfer 80 acres to son A T Hull on 15 Dec 1886.[5]
Mary Hull was a widow in the 1900 census in Coryell County, Texas.[6][7]
An abstract of her marriage record implies Mary Catherine Crist was born about 1831 in Greenland, Virginia and that her parents were Jacob Crist and Fauber. The 1900 census states she was born July 1828. Mary was age 21 in 1850, age 30 in 1860, age 42 in 1870, age 51 in 1880 and age 71 in 1900.
In 1850 and 1860, Mary resided with her siblings and Jacob and Elizabeth Crist in Greenbrier County, Virginia (which is now in West Virginia). Her parents were probably Jacob Crist and Elizabeth Hawver who were married in 24 Oct 1823 in Greenbrier County, Virginia. Jacob Crist died 2 Jul 1883 and Elizabeth died 17 Oct 1891 and they were buried in Old Stone Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Lewisbert, Greenbrier County, West Virginia.
Mary probably died between 1900 and 1904 if the order of the family story in Coryell County, Texas Families was written sequentially. It said that son Arch returned to the farm to take care of his mother after his father died. Then the story stated his mother died shortly and Arch married in 1904.
The 1900 census is difficult to interpret and understand. It looks like there are two sons who are single and in the household with 71 year old mother Mary Hull, but the initials are messed up. It states AS Hull born 1868 and KT Hull born 1870 are single sons residing in the household. Son KS was born in 1868 and son AT was born in 1870. And son Kirby Hull resided with wife and sons in nearby Bell Co TX in 1900. Arch Hull is probably residing with mother in 1900.
