Biography

Archibald Crockett was born 25 Jan 1774 in Mecklenburg, North Carolina. Archibald was the son of Robert Crockett and Rachel Kerr.

Archibald married Elizabeth Parker in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina.

Archibald received a Gift of Deed from his father, Robert, which reads in part as follows: "This Indenture made 13 of May 1805 Between Robert Crocket of the one part & his son Archibald Crocket of the other part both of Mecklenburg County North Carolina Witnesseth that said Robert in consideration of the love good will & natural affection which he has & bears towards the said Archibald his only son & from a desire to settle said Archibald near him while he may live or continue where he is in as elligible a manner as his circumstances & his duty to himself & the rest of his family will admit of has given granted & by these presents does give grant bargain sell & convey to said Archibald Crocket & his heirs forever all that tract of land lying on long creek being part of two tracts of land which he said Robert purchased from Samuel & Robert Barnet & on part of which I Robert now live & Archibald on another part thereof said land as follows viz: Beginning . . . to beginning containing by estimation 397 acres more or less & the reversions . . . In Witness whereof the said Robert Crocket hath set his hand & seal the day & year first above written [signed] Robert Crockett"[1]

Archibald was living in Giles County, Tennessee before 1815; when he purchased for $300 dollar, 95 acres of land in Giles County from Richard Hightower on the 7th of March, 1815.[2]

Archibald appears in the 1820 Federal census in Giles County, Tennessee.[3]

Archibald's father Robert made his will on the 22nd of June, 1824, in Giles County, Tennessee. Archibald was named as on of the Executors of Robert's will.[4]

Archibald appears in the 1830 Federal census in Giles County, Tennessee. Archibald's household appeared as follows: 1 male age 15 to 20; 2 males age 20 to 30; 1 male age 50 to 60; 1 female age 10 to 15; 1 female age 15 to 20; and 1 female age 50 to 60.[5]

Archibald made his last will and testament in Giles County, Tennessee. Archibald's will was not dated. Archibald's will was proved in court in Giles County, Tennessee on the 2nd of February, 1839 by his widow Elizabeth.[6]

Archibald died the 10th of January, 1839 in Giles County, Tennessee. Archibald was buried in the Elk Ridge Cemetery, Giles County, Tennessee.[7]

Archibald's will was approved in open court in Giles County, Tennessee on the 4th of February, 1839 as follows: "Pulaski Monday February 4th A.D. 1839 - It appearing to the satisfaction of the Court that Archibald Crockett a citizen of this county hath departed this life, having first made and published his last will and testament in writing, which was produced to the court now here and offered for Probate, and no objection being made thereto, the same was proven by the oaths of David N. Thompson, William M. Kerr and John C. Cochran, witness introduced before the Court to prove the hand writing of said Archibald Crockett, there being no subscribing witnesses to said will, and the Court being satisfied that said will is all in the proper handwriting of said Archibald Crockett, was ordered to be recorded - Ordered that David G. Crockett be appointed administrator on the Estate of Archibald Crockett deceased, with the will of said deceased annexed, where upon he gave Bond and Security and was sworn as the Law directs."[8]
