He is the son of John Frederick Croft and Catherine Jackson Croft. He married Elizabeth Sullivant (b. 1782 in TN, the daughter of Owen Sullivant ) in 1797 in Greenville, SC. His children were: Polly B. Croft Menser, Martin L. Croft, William L. Croft, Rufus W. Croft, Dorothy "Dolly" Croft, Frederick A. Croft, Elizabeth Catherine Croft Lantrip, Martha Croft, John A. Croft. infant Croft 1820, James R. Croft, and Margaret A. Croft. He and Elizabeth moved from SC to Hopkins/Christian County, KY around 1810.

Based the info from Rev. James Stacy's Published Records of Midway Congregational Church.

The John Croft and Elizabeth Sulivant who lived Hopkins, Kentucky are not the same as the John Corft and Elizabeth Sullivant who married in Liberty, Georgia.
