Biography

WILBORN A. CROFT (Reprinted from the Hobart Democrat-Chief)

Wilborn A. Croft, 83, died August 15, 2008 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus, Jackson County, Oklahoma.

He was born April 30, 1925 to Willie (Collins) Croft and Charles Thomas Croft in Causey, Roosevelt County, New Mexico.

As a youth he lived for some time in Hollis, Oklahoma where his father was a veterinarian. He had to quit school when he was 13 when his father died. He did farm work and taught himself how to fix bicycles and automobiles. In 1943 he moved to Lawndale, California where he was owner of California Erectors in Los Angeles.

He married Mary Corange in 1944 in Los Angeles. She preceded him in death in 1992.

He married Jean Marie (Nixon) Croft at Vernon, Texas in 1997.

He was a long time member of the California Ironworkers Union Local #433. He retired in April, 1991 and moved to Lone Wolf, Oklahoma in 2000. He was a member of the Lone Wolf United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife Jean of the home; his stepsons, Stan Baldwin and Mark Baldwin; a stepdaughter Delores Lucio; one sister Billie West. Lone Wolf, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Mary, a brother James Forest Croft; and three sisters, Bess, Wilma and Jessie.

Services were August 19, 2008 at the Lone Wolf United Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Hilton officiating and eulogy by Wayne Hardenbergh. Interment was at Fairmount Cemetery, Hollis, Harmon County, Oklahoma, under direction of People's Cooperative Funeral Home, Lone Wolf, Oklahoma.
