Louis Alexander was born 16 Dec 1920 in Belfast, Ireland. He was the son of James Bell Crooks (a native of County Tyrone) and Eliza Milne Fowler (born County Durham, England to Scottish parents). [1] [2]

His parents had married in New Zealand before moving back to James's home country.

The family returned to New Zealand aboard the Ruahine arriving at Wellington on 10 October 1922; [3] but moved back to Northern Ireland for a period in the 1930s before a final return to New Zealand. James attended the funeral at Claggan Churchyard of his great-uncle, George Graham Bell (abt.1865-1935).

He served in the Second World War with the Royal New Zealand Navy. [4]

In 1944 he married Gwen Kingston, second daughter of R.S-M. and Mrs L. H. Kingston, Bay Rd, St. Helier's. [5] [6]

As of 1957 he was an accountant living in Auckland. [7]

Around 1960-1963, he married Rata Joy Bertrand. [7]

He passed away 20 July 2011 in his 91st year at Thames Hospital. [8] [9]

He is buried at Mercury Bay Cemetery with his wife. [10]
