Samuel Crooks died last Tuesday morning. Funeral services were held at Otterbein Thursday conducted by Mr. Markin. Mr. Crooks was a well known and public spirited citizen and in his younger days was a good singer and a good leader in the old fashioned church music. He served in the sixty-day service, a bullet, passing through his coat at the battle of Uniontown.
Samuel Crooks was born February 23, 1835 in Parke County, Indiana to James M. and Anna Nevins Crooks. On May 28, 1857, he was united in marriage to Mary Jane Davis. To this union, five children were born, William Howard, John M, Laura E., George Nelson and Squire E.
Burial took place at Blake Cemetery following the funeral services.
