William was born 10 Jun 1875 at Tullynure, Lissan, County Londonderry. He was the third[1] son of David Crooks and Nancy Bell of Tullynure.[2]

He arrived in Auckland, New Zealand with family in 1878 on the Lady Jocelyn sailed 6/20 May 1878.[3]

William married Maude Mary Hillman on 23 June 1899 at the R.C. Church, Dannevirke in New Zealand .[4] [1]

He died in 1943.[5] [6]

Paternal and maternal relationships confirmed by two autosomal DNA matches via FTDNA Family Finder between a grandchild of his son Olaf, and two children of Bert Smith; 178cM, and 219cM respectively. The most recent common ancestor connection between the test takers is William's parents David Crooks and Nancy Ann Bell. The descendant of Olaf does not wish their name and test details to appear on Wikitree.
