Biography

Born 23 Dec 1755. Bowmans Folly, Accomack, Virginia, United States. [1]

Note: General John Cropper. http:/trees.ancestry.comrd?f=image&guid=388ee223-b650-4940-9a0d-caf44d21cfb1&tid=861848&pid=-408079082

This is what the Daughters of the American Revolution has:

...regularly approved member... having been admitted by virtue of her descent from John Cropper... as a Captain, Major, Lieutenant-Colonel and Colonel... etc.

...

William Cropper 1780 - ) ) 1807 Abigail McSpadden 1788* ) [*1738 -- the 3 & 8 are typed on top of each other]

John Cropper 1755 - 1821 ) ) 1776 Margaret Pettit 1757 ) first wife

John Cropper, the ancestor who assisted in establishing American Independence, acting in capacity of Colonel, commanded a Company from Accomacbe and joined the army at Morristown. At Brandywine his regiment suffered heavily and he was wounded. He was at Valley Forge, was Colonel of Lafayette's Division - 1778. Was president of the Cincinnatti of Virginia. In 1780 was married to Abagail McSpadden. (Children-- William, Sarah Corbin)

Lineage Book 14 Page 22 NN 13058 Admitted also under 176413 (Miriam Carlisle Smythe)

This is perplexing for several reasons: 1. When was Abigail McSpadden born? Was her name spelled Abagail or Abigail? Was she married to William or John? When was she married? 2. When did Margaret Pettit die? Who was John Cropper's second wife and when did they marry? 3. If John Cropper was married in 1780, then who was William Cropper's mother?

I (Diane Kenaston) am searching the DAR Genealogical Research Database, but it is currently moving slowly.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:
