Biography

Charles Huckins "Huckins" Crosby was born February 26, 1758, the son of Jonathan Crosby and Hannah Hamblin of Harwich, Barnstable, Massachusetts[1] [2]. There appears to be no birth record in Massachusetts, so some family trees indicate he was born occurred in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, however this is not possible, as Jonathan and Hannah were among the first settlers of Yarmouth, arriving on Thursday, June 13, 1761[3] [4], after Huckins was born. It is more likely that the birth record was destroyed. Familysearch notes that many records for events before 1841 in Barnstable were lost due to fire(s), and provides the genealogical notes here as a reliable resource.

In 1785 Charles Huckins Crosby married Miriam Saunders, daughter of Joseph Saunders and Sarah Hill [2] [1], and their children included:

  1. Abijah, born December 25, 1786[1], who married Mary Jordan of Portland Maine, and who died November 30, 1843[2]
  2. William, born August 23, 1788[1], who married Lydia Crocker daughter of Eleazer Crocker on January 6, 1811; and then married Martha Porter widow of John T Porter of Yarmouth, and who died April 4, 1872[2]
  3. Deborah, born 1792, who married Deacon Thomas Crosby, son of Edward on November 2, 1834; and who died October 17, 1881[5] [2] [6]
  4. Matilda, born September 1795[1] who married Knowles Crosby, son of James, and who died September 28, 1880[2] [7]
  5. Sarah[1], who married Joel Raymond, son of Daniel in 1830, and who died in 1844[2]
  6. Hannah, born February 18, 1801[1], who married John Knowles Crosby, son of Lemuel on August 2, 1837[2], and who died July 21, 1841 (See Findagrave #71305244)
  7. Miriam[1]

Charles Huckins Crosby died March 17, 1828[2] [1]. His wife Miriam died December 22, 1852, at age 92 years 11 months and 11 days.[2]. They are buried in the Brookside Cemetery in Hebron, Yarmouth, Nova Scotia[8]
