1776 Project
Isaac Crosby served with 7th Massachusetts Regiment (1777), Continental Army during the American Revolution.

This man served in the 6th Massachusetts Regiment of the Continental Line (often referred to as the 7th). The regiment saw action at Saratoga, Cobleskill, Cherry Valley, and during the Sullivan Campaign.

Please visit the link below for details concerning the actions of this regiment and its men during the Revolution.

Isaac Crosby (KIA). Crosby lived in Mystic, CT in 1777. He enlisted from Buxton, ME under Captain Lane on 15 June 1777. He served in the 6th Massachusetts Regiment from 15 June 1777 to 18 April 1778. Crosby is reported as "killed", 3 days after being reported a prisoner. This occurred about the time of the escape of the famous British Ranger, Capt. Walter Butler, from his confinement in Albany on 18 April 1778. The regiment was on duty in Albany at this time. It is likely Crosby was guarding Capt. Butler at the time of the escape and lost his life as a result. Ironically, it was Capt. Butler that led the attack at Cherry Valley the following November which took the lives of more men in the regiment.
