Note

Note: 1801:
ABSTRACT FROM THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE NEW FOREST COMMISSIONERS 1801 - LADY CROSS WALK:
No. 463 JOHN CRUIT, house and garden, Beck heath. Wm. Harvey (duly sworn) taken in between 30 and 40 years ago. Encroachment.
- Lease recommended.
These proceedings were instigated after much wrangling between the parishes of Beaulieu and Boldre regarding those of its parishioners who should or should not be entitled to Poor Law benefits from the parish should they fall on hard times. The encroachment into Crown lands of the New Forest were investigated to see whether or not they were on Beaulieu Estate territory. The leases recommended were Crown leases - for how long is not yet known but being investigated.
1813:
EXTRACT FROM REF. EIII/SP 1 of the Beaulieu Archives - the Beaulieu Estate Survey of 1813 has: ' John Crouch rented from the estate 5 acres, formerly part of Beck Heath for £4.10s. 0d'.
In the survey of 1837 his son Stephen has taken over the tenancy. Susan Tomkins, the Beaulieu Archivist, in August 2000 confirms that the tenants in these surveys did not necessarily live or work the lands and could have sub-let them.
1817:
AN EXTRACT FROM REV. COMYN’S 1817 DIRECTORY OF LIFE IN THE PARISHES OF BOLDRE AND BROCKENHURST - Beaulieu (Buley) Rails, the near part from Beck Gate to Monkish Horn.
