Robert graduated from the Citadel in 1927 with a degree in English.[4]
He married Jean Henderson on January 22, 1931, at the Elmhurst Baptist Church in Elmhurst, New York. At the time time of his marriage, he was working in the photo engraving business.[5]Together they had the following children:
He worked as a newspaper columnist and as a publicity agent.[6]
He died on December 18, 1976, in New York, New York at age 71 and was buried at Peterkin Family Cemetery in Fort Motte, South Carolina.[7][8]
