1945: Killed on February 2, 1945 in action in Germany while serving in U.S. Army during World War II.[3] He is buried at Enfield Cemetery in Enfield, White County, Illinois.
"Alice Cruse Crouch was born February 14, 1905 in Clay County, Iola, IL. She met Lt. Vernon T. Crouch, born March 29, 1910 when they both came to the Shelbyville School System in the fall of 1939. She was a home economics teacher and Vernon was principal of Main Street School. They attended the same church. They were married May 1, 1942 at 1st Shelbyville United Methodist Church.
"Vernon was inducted into the Army in the Summer of 1942 and served during WWII. He was a member of the 12th Inf., 4th Div., Co. A when he was killed on February 2, 1945 in action in Germany. Theatres of Operation include European, Belgium, and Germany. Vernon was awarded the Purple Heart.
"Alice received her master degree in Home Economics Education and remained a widow. They had no children. Besides being a teacher she is a child care hospital volunteer. Alice has been a member-at-large of the Gold Star Wives since the beginning.[4]
