Biography

Margaret (Crouch) Simmons was born in South Carolina.

Margaret was born on January 13, 1871, in Bamberg which was then a part of Barnwell County. She was the oldest child of Rev. John C Calhoun Crouch and Cornelia Elizabeth Sandifer. Her father who was a Baptist minister moved around to different churches. In 1885, according to the Florida State Census, she is living with her family in Marion County, Florida.^[1] Her family returned to South Carolina and she married Robert S Simmons in about 1889. She had 5 children; 3 daughters and 2 sons. She moved around the state during her marriage with her husband. They lived in Batesburg, SC, Black Mountain, NC, Chester, SC, Florence, SC, Bamberg, SC and Spartanburg SC. She died at the home of her daughter Mabel on Dec 13, 1938 in McMillan, Florence, SC of heart disease. ^{[2][3] [4]}
