Little is known about Miranda T. Crowder except that she was born in 1830 in North Carolina. In her youth she moved to Tennessee where she met and married James Poyner at 17 years old.
They had 11 children (7 boys, 4 girls), including their second child, Rachel E. Poyner, born ca. 1850 in Henry County, Tennessee.
Matilda died in Henry County, at age 65, five years after her husband's passing. She is buried with him in Paris, Tennessee.
